Set your alarms! Spooky season is almost here. Giving us the ultimate excuse to dress up, catch up with neighbours and share deliciously devilish treats. To help you prepare and celebrate, we’ve asked foodie Tegan Jean (@tegan_jean) to share a couple of her favourite Halloween treat recipes.

Treat #1 Chocolate Pretzel Spider Webs

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag or box of pretzel sticks (120 – 150g)
  • Chocolate chips of your choice! (We used ½ cup of white choc chips and ½ cup of milk choc chips)

Steps:

  1. Arrange 8 pretzel sticks in a circular pattern on a baking paper lined tray. Repeat this pattern over and over to form the bases of all your spider webs.
  2. Melt your chocolate chips and add this mixture into a piping bag. Then pipe the mixture in a spiral motion over each pretzel pattern – starting from the centre and working out to the edge – to form your spider webs.
  3. Place your tray into the fridge to allow the chocolate to set. This should take around 2-4 hours but if you’re in a hurry, you can place your tray in the freezer for 1 hour.

Tip: Don't have piping bags? Use a zip lock sandwich bag, add the melted chocolate, and snip a small corner on one side to create your own DIY piping bag.

Treat #2 Chocolate Dipped Ghost Strawberries

Ingredients:

  • 250g strawberries (washed and patted dry)
  • 1 cup white chocolate
  • Dark or milk chocolate to decorate

Steps:

  1. Melt the white chocolate.
  2. Dip your strawberries in the melted white chocolate to coat them. Then place them onto a plate or tray.
  3. Put your plate or tray into the fridge and chill for at least an hour to set the chocolate.
  4. Melt a small amount of dark or milk chocolate and dip a toothpick in the mixture to draw on your spooky ghost faces.

Tip: Instead of heating the chocolate over the stove, place the chocolate in a small microwave-safe bowl and heat in 10-second bursts, giving it a quick stir each time until fully melted. This should be much quicker and safer when cooking with kids!

These clever variations on popular snacks are a definite crowd pleaser for trick or treaters of all ages! Head into Lakeside Joondalup today to stock up on all your Halloween ingredients.
